*sigh* these take a bite articles just keep on showing up... well, for a change this one is actually interesting considering its about caffeine levels.. - btw this is a british magazine, it'd be different in australia. For a start: - in australia the maximum caffeine level allowed in a can is 50mgs, so coke/mountain dew/etc are only 50 or a bit below.. - the exception to this is imported jolt - this is the stuff in the glass bottles, which costs about $2.65 a bottle at 7-11.. as its directly imported its not subject to caffeine restrictions so it really does have 100mgs - The local jolt is just in those boring plastic bottles or cans or whatever and contains a pathetic 50mgs (same as coke) - you'll notice the "twice the caffeine" slogan on the side is in quotation marks - it isn't actually twice the caffeine, they're just using the legal side-clause of calling it a quote of their normal slogan to get away with what i'd call false advertising... - If you manage to get imported cans of jolt, and you're prepared to leave them to sit for 6-9 months, apparently the jolt will corrode its way through the side of the can! According to my informant however, this is actually do to the cadmium in the water that gets added to jolt in the US, rather than anything stylish in the jolt like sulfuric acid.. oh well, just proves you shouldn't drink american water... but anyway, here's the article... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Take a Bite Taste Test Is caffeine more important than sunlight? This question from the goth test set our corporate scientists to work, and after several lightning lit midnights, and the horrible dismemberment of several Igors here are the results. Therefore the top 3 drinks with caffeine according to Take a Bite are: 3. Jolt Cola tastes filthy, kicks like a mule on speed 2. Coffee a warm mellow drink causing shakes and psychotic episodes if you have more than about 17 cups 1. Tea boiled water and leaves served with or without cow-squirt. Goes some way to explain the English. Please note: Pepsi Max does not figure in this survey as I drank it all.
