The Pit of Doom before me lies
Its fires sear my naked eyes
Its brimstone and its orange glow
Do stretch as far as sight doth go

My steps in life have brought me here
'Cross barren wastes and grasslands sere
And now at last the time has come
To reap the fruits of what I've sown

Though when I lived my will was strong
To shun the right, embracing wrong
I cared not where that path would wend;
I'd follow it till journey's end

But standing here I'm not so sure
That Hell is worth enduring for
An hour's pleasure, come and gone
In the face of damnation waiting anon.

I cry for mercy to Heaven above
To which I showed not faith or love
But now at last, 'tis the end of all
The piper for his pay doth call

The brink draws nigh beneath my feet
I gaze upon its fire and heat
And pray my first and only prayer
To avert the fate that awaits me there
I close my eyes as the moment comes

My feet this mortal soil depart
The beat comes faster to my heart
To Heaven rise or to Hell fall
Fate has wrapped me in its thrall

I dare not hope my lonesome prayer
Muttered in my deep tearful despair
Defended me from eternal damnation
To lift me in undeserving salvation

The moments slowly onward drag
My hearts mad thumping will not flag
Yet as my hopes upward rise
And I buck up the courage to open my eyes
The scene that to those orbs doth come
My ever and eternal home
is
