About two months ago, someone mentioned that we should look into starting BTH again (after the original coder left, the project was put on the back burner). I decided that this was probably a good idea, seeing as there is a shortage of electronic magazines in todays art scene. So about a month ago, Shivan Bastard applied to blade as a coder. I took that opportunity to start BTH once again, and gave him the job of coding this wonderful magazine. So here it is, Beyond The Horizon Issue Two.. I guess all the various scene writers ran out of arguments saying how bad the ansi scene sucks. Isn't that a shame. So what do we write about now? Well, everything in the ansi scene seems to have cooled down a bit. There aren't a million little groups popping up everywhere anymore. A lot of the people have left the scene , and less are coming into it. People who had an impact before are not really there anymore. Nothing is as it was when I first became involved, and really it's a shame. The 908 scene has literally been destroyed. The major boards are just about gone. The North Star, Tlorah, and Aneurysm are gone. Eternal Insanity has changed into Alderaan. The major 908 people have either moved or just don't bother with the ansi scene anymore. Has anyone come to rescue the 908 scene? No, because there is nothing anyone can do. Its not just the 908 scene that is dying, it is the entire ansi scene that is dying. It is simple to throw blame. Anyone can say that the emags were a major factor in the destruction of the ansi scene. One can also blame the internet , but what is the point. Blame is not going to help anyone. So what can be done? There are a few solutions. I would say that the scene is in real danger of disappearing right now. What is needed is a Renaissance, a re-birth. The people who actually care about the scene have to step up and take control. They can't just sit there and watch as everything comes crashing down upon them. It is up to them to salvage the scene and make it what it once was. People must realize that art is what the scene is about. Art, quality and loyalty. Things such as bi-tri-quad-grouping must end. That is one of the major things destroying the quality and quantity of the art. Egotistic attitudes must be lost. A desire to create good art is needed. Charging money and the attempt to exploit people must be ended. This is supposed to be the 'underground'. Yet more and more it is becoming like that which we try to escape from. People have to once again WANT to create and be original and the people who care have to lead the way. The group leaders have to demand good work from their members Don't just take adequate work, take only the best. Don't just take something that is no good for the sake of taking it , trying not to offend the artist so they won't leave your group. If the artist isn't going to produce something of quality, what the hell purpose does he serve. Screw him, let him go. For the scene to be as cool as it once was , certain values must be met. Art, loyalty, and quality. These things must be the first priority of every artist and everyone involed , if the scene is going to be cool again. Everything else is of little importance.The people who care and the people who want to see the scene cool again must become the leaders they must show the new people the way. You are all probably saying to yourself that I have no right to be telling you all this. Maybe you are right. However, as I see it. I am just a person who found the scene almost a year ago , someone who has seen the scene at its peak and is now seeing the scene at its lowest point. I think it's a shame The scene was so cool when I first became involved and I would like to see it that way once again. All we have to do is try. Is this done yet? No. It makes me sick to see all this. What is the point of it all? Why does everyone say how sucky and lame the scene is? Why, when _THEY_ are the problem? People like that destroyed the scene, and you are just going to sit there and let them. It is time for a big change. The VGA's by Prisoner #1 and the RIP's a la Bedlam really stand out amongst the other points of the pack. The j1 ANSI this month, however, was rather weak compared to Legend and Saga. Acid is still the most experienced, knowledgable group out there, not to mention it was probably the FIRST one to exist. I think he could have released 1 or 2 more. Maybe not. Everlast needs to join cia or something. He's decent, but he's just not Legend quality. Good pack guys. Ended Log on 11/19/95 at 06:16p iv.2 221 Chatting with Subconsciousness on 12/01/95 at 07:33p hey man.. can i interview ya for BTH? ya' know i say yea! heh... yea sure man... now though?! im need to finish up the emag. ahh... alright... you got the questions? hell no.. i was just gonna do it on the fly. alright... if thats what ya wanna do... have to.. heh.. gotta get it done.. lets see first off whats your handle? uhh... subconciousness... ever used any others? yup, "sheeple", long story... heh... heh.. how long have you been calling boards? eh, since i was about 9, i yusta' call out and get my dad to navigate me around the board and i would tell him what files i wanted and he'd get them for me... heh. thats cool.. how old are ya now? 15 damnit! it blows! yea. heh.. uhm.. how long have you been drawing ansis.? let's see... since about the beginning of summer... that was when i first tried... what did your first ansis look like? any good? or did it take alot of time? yea they realy sucked... but i thought they were fresh as hell... i think everyone thinks they look fresh at first though? heh... yea, i remember i used to love your old logos you did for me, then i look at the new ones and they dont look so great anymore heh.. heh... thats definitely understandable, still don't understand why you use that one nh logo? heh... make me a new one?! heh.. uhm,, what groups and artists first inspired you? well... blade was the first pack i ever got my grubby hands on... i had lunch with mk the logo master of blade (formely) and he told me to give avga a call... so i started leeching the packs and i wanted to try it out, so there it was! of course mk inspired me...and well... not much more... kid krylon realy inspired me... i think mk was everyones inspiration in 904. well... he was realy mine because i see him everyday, heh... yea thats cool.. what do you think of the current state of the art scene.. better/worse? why? well... i realy get tired of people complaining about how people are just jumping to it and ruining the scene... it's kinda' annoing all that pissing and moaning... there have to be some artists getting involved anyways... the same ones won't be around forever! but i do admit... alot of people out there kinda' suck about how they act in the scene... how they jump around from group to group and stuff... i don't like that... i think you should stay with a group and be loyal... but it's just an opinoin.. as for me, i'm sorry i ruined the scene for all you old schoolers, but i love the old school work if thats anything to ya', heh... great answer.. is there any one artist/group/thing you can point out that has specificaly lowered the standards of the art scene? well, i could say some names on my mind.. but i don't want to offend anyone, heh... i'll tell you later... thats what emags are for! Sorry for the lack of an ansi scroller but its the first issue, and its the best we could do in short notice. A working Ansi scroller is at the top of the list of improvements for BTH numba' three. oh yea, if ya dont like our choices, fuck you! =)
