The Present State of the "Elite" World
                          some thoughts and ideas

        Those of you familiar with the elite world and\or distribution of
pirated software realize that there is a lot of problems recently with a lot
of things.  It is not as it once was, instead of people helping each other out
they are trashing each other, getting into fights, and promising all kinds of
unimaginable things they'll do to the other.
        In seems that almost every board I am on, there is at least one or two
fight, or more aptly named, "Lamer wars," every time I call up a board I see
new insults, lies about a person, etc.  One of the worse things I think I've 
seen was an actual coded demo about a person putting him down, mocking him out, 
whatever you want to call it.  This person responded by sinking to the other's 
level and releasing a similiar demo right back at them.  Right then I have to 
question either of these person's "eliteness" or whatever the hell you want to 
think of it as.  Each of them took time out of their way, to friggin code a 
demo, why?  Because they have nothing better do?  Probably not, more likely 
they felt that this was a necessary form of retaliation, when in fact it shows 
the lameness of them.  I got some advice for these people, and others doing 
the same thing.  This is a quote from Henry Rollins.  "Hating a single 
person....is really not worth your while.  If you really have a lot on your 
mind and you want to do something with yourself, hating someone.....you're 
giving them too much of yourself already, don't hate them, just walk away."  
If that's not good advice from a man who knows what the hell he's talking 
about, then what is?
        Alrite, the other problem I've seen.  Lately, it seems that on a lot
of boards that I am on, no one uploads.  There is maybe a few select two or
three people who regularly upload, yet so many people call up a board, try to
download something, realize they can't because of their ratio, and hang up. 
They don't even give it a second thought to maybe upload something so they can
get something back.  Granted there are boards that have continued to get the
wares from users who want to help the system.  That's the point I'm trying to
get across.  Why would you call a bbs, if one, you're just gonna mock someone
out or whatever, or two, you're not going to upload or download something to
spread around.  I only call boards that I feel I can contribute to, in terms
of wares, messaging, or just helping out the sysop.  So many people just call
a board, don't do shit, hang up, and call the next board to do the same thing.
        I think that covers a few of the things that are wrong with the scene 
today.  There are definite others, but those are two that piss me off a lot.
Starting with the more well-known people in the elite world, we could turn it
around so that we set decent examples, not do the same lame thing everyone 
else is doing.
