Mechs of War ~~~~~ ~~ ~~~ Part 1 "Father, what will the future be like?" Little Will, about eight years of age, was trying to talk to his father to break up the boredom in the beautiful but eventless country. "I don't know Will. Things are always changing, anything can happen. Who knows, we may even move back to the city someday." Steve said, looking out the window towards the serene forest. "Why don't you go out and play in the fields Will? Maybe you could take a dip in the stream later.." Before Steve could even turn his back, he heard his son's voice again. "Dad, what's that robot doing out on the hill?" Will was on his way out to play in the field. He was speaking calmly, sensing no danger whatsoever. "Oh my God, they've found us.." Steve's speech was hushed, he was obviously planning what to do next. "Will, listen to me. Some people are coming to talk to your daddy. I want you to run, run as fast as you can. Run away from this house, and don't come back. I'll come for you when daddy's done talking to his friends." With that, Steve pushed his son out the door, to an uncertain future. Walking out the frontdoor of the little cottage, Steve saw the gigantic mech 50 yards in front of him. He closed his eyes, never to open them again. The mech was built for the military to destroy rebel factions in heavily wooded and jungle enviroments. Very few weapons available to present day man could even dent the multi-alloy armor. The gatling gun on the mech's right arm slowly moved towards Steve. In a hail of fire Steve's body was lacerated into hundreds of minute parts. There was no corpse. The missle pack on the 30 foot monster's back suddenly came to life, and fixed itself into position. Four missles later, there was no homely cottage, there was no Steve, and there were no remains. The mech had totally obliterated Steve's secluded hideaway. "Get the kid." Dreadnought [CHAOS] '93
